Frequently Asked Question - Questions related to Geocode Factory 3 maps

Questions related to Geocode Factory 3 maps

1 How to access to a map position directly by passing to the URL: an address (or coordinates) and radius?

You can direct open a map with a search ZIP (or city, street, ...), and a custom radius. It will open the map at center point of passed search string (address is geocoded) and show the markers availables in this radius. A radius circle is drawn or not according the map settings.

Simply add 'gf_mod_search=Washington+USA&gf_mod_radius=30' at end of urls, and you can also pass coordinate.

Note : if you are using the frontend radius search, and if the url-give radius value dont exists, it's added to the list temporary.

2 Why, when I type a state name (Texas, USA) in the radius search form, the result give me also markers outside this state?

Because, this is a radius search. If you enter a state (Texas, USA), and a value in miles, the radius will be calculated from the physical center of the state, and search markers in this radius, not only in this state.

3 How to remove the default google maps bubbles (POIs)?

It's possible to disable this by editing the map, and in the styles (tab 'Display options'), simply add this :

 [ { "featureType": "poi", "stylers": [ { "visibility": "off" } ] } ]

Of course you can also select precisely what you want to hide. Simply use the wizard (link is in the map editor).

4 How to display bus and metro routes on my maps?

The bus / metro routes are available in the transit layer. And only on cities that provide this. Go in maps manager, Additional data tab, and select at least the transit layer selector.

On the frontend, enable the transit layer and fly over San Fransisco, USA, or Paris, France.

5 Why my map are always centering in the middle of the see near Africa?

Because this the coordinates 0,0 (origin). You need to set a default center point in your map. Use the map editor, and pick a point (or enter values) to set the center point. Then if for any reason (no support of browser to fetch user's position, no markers, ...), the map is at least centered on a default.

6 When I try to fetch my position on the map, I get this popup message: "Geocode not possible with this browser". Why ?

On this wikipedia page you can read : "On desktop computers, the W3C Geolocation API works in Firefox since version 3.5, Google Chrome, Opera 10.6, Internet Explorer 9.0, and Safari 5. On mobile devices, it works on Android (firmware 2.0 +), iOS, Windows Phone and Maemo. The W3C Geolocation API is also supported by Opera Mobile 10.1 — available for Android and Symbian devices (S60 generations 3 & 5) since November 24, 2010."

7 How can I increase the size and globally add styles to the sidelists?

Simply edit your markerset and edit the CSS style control (you can also find help in user's guide). Changing the size of the sidelists :

#gf_sidelists{ height:500px!important;	}

8 Why not all my kml file are not loaded on the map?

Google Maps currently has specific limitations to the size and complexity of loaded KML files. See the google article. Below is a summary of the current limits:

  • Note: these limits are temporary and are subject to change at any time.
  • Maximum fetched file size (raw KML, raw GeoRSS, or compressed KMZ): 3MB
  • Maximum uncompressed KML file size: 10MB
  • Maximum number of Network Links: 10
  • Maximum number of total document-wide features: 1000
